Fat grafting is a natural procedure that involves removing unwanted fat from one area of your body and transferring it to a location that is lacking in volume.

How does fat grafting work?

The fat grafting procedure is relatively simple. Unwanted fat is taken from one area of your body via liposuction and then transferred to a feature that you’d like to enhance. While most of our patients remove fat from the hips, belly, thighs and back, the most common transfer sites include the:

  • Breasts: Fat grafting is known for adding subtle volume to the breasts.
  • Buttocks: Sculpting full and athletic buttocks with a fat transfer has become increasingly popular among many patients.
  • Hands: Aging hands feature prominent wrinkles, veins and tendons. A fat transfer can subtly plump the area, restoring smooth, youthful hands.
  • Face: Fat grafting can correct age-related volume loss and hollow areas – filling in wrinkles and restoring a smooth appearance.

The benefits

  • Contour one area of the body while enhancing another
  • Sculpt a shapely and refined body contour
  • Enjoy natural and long-lasting results

The procedure: What to expect

Your fat grafting procedure will be done under local anesthesia, which means you will be conscious but numb the entire time. Once the anesthesia has taken effect, Dr. Fenner will create tiny incisions in the area of your unwanted fat.

Through those openings, he will place a long, thin tube called a cannula, moving it back and forth to break up and remove the excess volume. Once a sufficient amount of fat has been collected, Dr. Fenner will purify the cells. He will then separate the whole, undamaged ones for the transfer.

Those cells will be injected directly into the areas of your body that you’d like to enhance, such as the buttocks, breasts, hands and more. They will be placed at a variety of depths and locations, ensuring that your aesthetic vision is achieved in the most natural manner possible.

The recovery

You will be able to return to work and your normal daily routine one to two weeks after your fat grafting procedure. In the meantime, it’s important to rest often and give your body a chance to heal.

There generally isn’t a substantial amount of pain after fat grafting. Some post-surgical swelling and bruising is normal, however, and may persist for several weeks. Once these effects subside, your results will be considered final.
