A chemical peel is designed to improve your complexion by removing the damaged surface layer of skin.

How do chemical peels work?

Chemical peels involve applying a special acid solution to the skin to remove the damaged outer layers. As your body heals, a new layer of skin emerges with an enhanced tone, texture and appearance.

The treatment experience: What to expect during your chemical peel

Prior to your chemical peel, we will gently cleanse the skin. From there, we will apply the chemical solution to the treatment area. During this time, you may feel a slight stinging or warming sensation. After a few minutes, we will wash away the acid solution and apply a calming lotion.

There is no recovery time associated with a light chemical peel. Although your skin may be slightly irritated, you will be free to return to work and your normal daily routine right away. After your appointment, a crust will form over the treatment area and flake away within four to seven days. The new skin will appear red and pink initially but should return to normal color within one week.

How to customize your chemical peel

At Fenner Plastic Surgery and Med Spa, we offer a variety of chemical peels. Here is a closer look at your options, depending on the skin condition you’d like to address:

Glycolic

This light chemical peel is a gentle, non-invasive treatment that can help most of our patients enhance their skin. It is ideal for men and women with mild skin imperfections and those who want to improve their complexion without significant downtime. It is a highly effective way to improve:

  • Fine lines
  • Acne
  • Dryness
  • Pigmentation issues
  • Sun damaged skin
  • Mild acne scars

Lactic

The lactic chemical peel is another gentle treatment. The lactic acid used for the chemical solution is an alpha-hydroxy acid that is derived from milk. This peel tends to be ideal for patients with sensitive skin and is often used to treat:

  • Age spots
  • Hyperpigmentation
  • An uneven complexion
  • Large pores

Modified Jessner

The Modified Jessner is a medium peel. As such, it removes the surface layer of the skin and the upper portion of the dermis. Composed of lactic acid and salicylic acid, this solution is best for men and women who want to correct:

  • Age spots
  • Uneven skin tone
  • Acne scars
  • Fine lines
  • Wrinkles
  • Melasma
  • Hyperpigmentation

TCA

This medium chemical peel contains trichloroacetic acid and is tailored to each individual patient. It delivers a more dramatic transformation than light chemical peels, but doesn’t require the extensive healing time associated with a deep phenol peel.

The TCA peel is designed to remove the layers of skin that feature acne, fine lines and sun damage. It can also be used as a “spot treatment” and is ideal for patients who want to improve the appearance of:

  • Wrinkles
  • Acne scars
  • Sunspots
  • Pigmentation issues
  • Dark undereye circles
