What to expect
Your chin augmentation will be done under general anesthesia. Once you are asleep, Dr. Fenner will create a small incision either beneath your chin or inside your mouth. Through that opening, he will stretch the underlying tissue to create space for the implant.
Chin implants are composed of a synthetic material that mimics the feel of natural tissue and is custom formed to your facial anatomy. Dr. Fenner will place the implant in the pocket he created and position it to ensure a symmetrical outcome. He will then close the incisions with sutures. Depending on your needs, Dr. Fenner may also perform gentle liposuction along the neck and jawline to further refine the area and ensure that your cosmetic goals are realized.
After your chin augmentation, you will be free to return home the very same day to begin the healing process. Apply a cold compress regularly to minimize swelling and bruising in the area. Mild to moderate discomfort is common, though these effects should improve within a day or two.
Most of our patients can expect to take a week off work and their normal daily routine following a chin augmentation. However, Dr. Fenner will provide you with a custom recovery timeline during your post-operative appointments, including when you can resume exercise and other strenuous activities.
