Prominent, well-defined cheekbones are a universal sign of beauty. Cheek implants have the power to add subtle volume to the vital cheek area, creating an elegant contour that enhances your facial aesthetics.

The benefits

When Dr. Fenner places cheek implants, his goal is to enhance your natural beauty and create a beautifully defined contour. Depending on your needs, adding volume to the mid-face region can:

  • Sculpt contoured cheeks
  • Correct a weak bone structure or flattened face
  • Improve facial definition and balance
  • Create a more balanced and attractive facial profile

Are you a candidate?

The best candidates for cheek augmentation are patients whose appearance can be improved by enhancing the size and shape of the cheeks. As a general rule, flat cheeks, undereye bags, hollow areas, and wrinkles in the area are all indications that you will benefit from this procedure.

The procedure
What to expect

Your cheek augmentation will be done under general anesthesia to ensure your comfort and safety throughout the experience. Once you are asleep, Dr. Fenner will create small incisions either hidden inside the mouth or within the natural creases of your lower eyelids. Through those openings, he will insert a custom-formed cheek implant to enhance the area. Depending on your needs, your implant may be rigid or flexible. He will then prevent future movement of the devices by attaching them to your cheekbones using tiny screws.

Many of our plastic surgery patients choose to undergo cheek augmentation in conjunction with a complementary procedure, such as eyelid surgery or a facelift. In these cases, Dr. Fenner can often use the same incisions for both surgeries.

The recovery

After your cheek augmentation surgery and a brief stay in the recovery room, you will be free to return home the same day to begin the healing process. Swelling and bruising around the cheeks and eyes is normal and to be expected. Applying cold compresses regularly can help to minimize these effects. Most swelling will dissipate within two weeks, though it can take several weeks for it to fully disappear. You will need to avoid sleeping on your face for at least six weeks to ensure an optimal outcome.

The results

An initial improvement in your appearance will be apparent immediately after surgery. However, these results will be partially obscured by post-surgical swelling and bruising. It can take several months for your results to finalize, at which point you will see an improved facial contour and more beautiful and prominent cheeks.

FAQ

What are my non-surgical options?

In addition to cheek implants, there are a variety of temporary, non-surgical cheek augmentation options available. If you are interested in an alternative to implants, Dr. Fenner can use a combination of dermal fillers and/or a fat transfer procedure to enhance your cheeks.

Cheek Augmentation FAQ's

What are the benefits of cheek augmentation?

Cheek augmentation can add subtle volume to the mid-face, sculpt the cheeks, improve facial definition and balance, and create a more attractive facial profile.

Who is a good candidate for cheek augmentation?

Good candidates are patients whose appearance may be improved by enhancing the size and shape of their cheeks. Flat cheeks, hollow areas, undereye bags, and wrinkles in the cheek area may indicate that cheek augmentation could be beneficial.

How is cheek augmentation performed?

Under general anesthesia, Dr. Fenner creates small incisions inside the mouth or within the natural creases of the lower eyelids. A custom-formed cheek implant is then placed to enhance the area and secured to the cheekbones with tiny screws.

Where are the incisions made for cheek augmentation?

Incisions may be placed inside the mouth or within the natural creases of the lower eyelids, depending on the patient's needs and surgical approach.

What are cheek implants made of?

Cheek implants can be either rigid or flexible, depending on the patient's individual needs and the desired result.

Can cheek augmentation be performed with other facial procedures?

Yes. Cheek augmentation can be performed alongside complementary procedures such as eyelid surgery or a facelift. When appropriate, Dr. Fenner may be able to use the same incisions for both procedures.

How long does it take to recover from cheek augmentation?

Patients can return home the same day after a brief stay in the recovery room. Swelling and bruising are expected, and patients should avoid sleeping on their face for at least six weeks.

How long does swelling last after cheek augmentation?

Most swelling typically dissipates within about two weeks, although some residual swelling can take several weeks to fully resolve.

When will I see the final results of cheek augmentation?

Some improvement is visible immediately after surgery, although swelling and bruising can temporarily obscure the results. The final results can take several months to fully develop.

What are my non-surgical options for cheek augmentation?

Non-surgical options may provide an alternative to cheek implants for patients seeking additional cheek volume without surgery. A consultation with Dr. Fenner can help determine which approach is appropriate for your aesthetic goals.
