What to expect

Your cheek augmentation will be done under general anesthesia to ensure your comfort and safety throughout the experience. Once you are asleep, Dr. Fenner will create small incisions either hidden inside the mouth or within the natural creases of your lower eyelids. Through those openings, he will insert a custom-formed cheek implant to enhance the area. Depending on your needs, your implant may be rigid or flexible. He will then prevent future movement of the devices by attaching them to your cheekbones using tiny screws. 

Many of our plastic surgery patients choose to undergo cheek augmentation in conjunction with a complementary procedure, such as eyelid surgery or a facelift. In these cases, Dr. Fenner can often use the same incisions for both surgeries.

The recovery

After your cheek augmentation surgery and a brief stay in the recovery room, you will be free to return home the same day to begin the healing process. Swelling and bruising around the cheeks and eyes is normal and to be expected. Applying cold compresses regularly can help to minimize these effects. Most swelling will dissipate within two weeks, though it can take several weeks for it to fully disappear. You will need to avoid sleeping on your face for at least six weeks to ensure an optimal outcome.

The results

An initial improvement in your appearance will be apparent immediately after surgery. However, these results will be partially obscured by post-surgical swelling and bruising. It can take several months for your results to finalize, at which point you will see an improved facial contour and more beautiful and prominent cheeks.
